Quite an interesting monument I found in the middle of San Jose’s national park. It was probably even more interesting to me since I had no idea what it was depicting or what it signified. So I went home and decided to investigate!
From this picture, you can see that the monument depicts five women and they’re all forcing a man away. Apparently, the five women represent the five Central American countries and the man is actually William Walker, who intended to conquer Central America between 1855-1857. The five republics of Central America triumphed in ousting him and other filibusters from taking over so evidently, this is a great representation of Central America’s gain to independence.
Oh, all the wonderful things you find in the park!
